The most important moments of your pregnancy

Are you at least a week late for your period, experiencing breast tenderness or persistent morning sickness? Take a urine pregnancy test, which is commonly available at any pharmacy, and visit your gynecologist.

Weeks 6–7 of pregnancy – I’m pregnant

Has your gynecologist confirmed your intrauterine pregnancy using a pregnancy test and ultrasound examination? Around the 6th to 7th week of pregnancy, it is possible to see the fetal heartbeat on an ultrasound.

Weeks 11–13 of pregnancy – First screening

Are you expecting a first-trimester screening?
This is a combined screening (ultrasound + blood test) used to assess the risk of genetic disorders in the fetus.
Schedule your first-trimester screening at our specialized Fetal Medicine and Ultrasound Diagnostics Center, and combine this examination with the important preeclampsia screening.
You can also undergo first-trimester screening with your gynecologist.

Weeks 20–22 of pregnancy – Second screening

During the second screening examination, we focus on a detailed morphology of your baby. During the ultrasound, our specialist will, for example, measure the head diameter, head circumference, abdominal circumference, and femur length. This examination is one of the most important during the entire pregnancy and is not currently covered by health insurance.

Between weeks 24 and 28 of pregnancy – Second phase of screening for gestational diabetes (OGTT)

In our certified laboratory, we examine all pregnant women whose first-stage screening for gestational diabetes (up to the 14th week of pregnancy) was negative. The examination consists of several blood draws and drinking a sweet beverage with a high glucose content.

I have a positive gestational diabetes screening – more information here

Around the 30th week of pregnancy – Additional follow-up blood tests

Blood tests should be performed by your attending gynecologist and are primarily focused on preventing anemia during pregnancy. If the doctor evaluates low red blood cell levels, they will recommend taking an iron supplement. Iron plays a crucial role in maintaining proper red blood cell levels.

Around the 32nd week of pregnancy – Iron deficiency in the blood

Have you been diagnosed with iron deficiency in your blood?

  • If your hemoglobin level is below 120 g/l, we recommend taking an iron supplement. The supplement will be taken preventively. Women giving birth in our maternity hospital who have iron deficiency are closely monitored until delivery and during the postpartum period. Low iron levels can cause increased fatigue, may lead to fainting, and can impair the healing of postpartum wounds.
  • If your hemoglobin level is below 100 g/l, please visit our anesthesiology clinic. We will determine the cause of the iron deficiency and discuss further treatment options with you.

Between the 30th and 32nd week of pregnancy – Ultrasound examination

The examination focuses on monitoring your baby’s growth, the amount of amniotic fluid, and the placement of the placenta. Schedule an appointment at our Fetal Medicine and Ultrasound Diagnostics Center, where our specialists will perform the examination, or visit your gynecologist. If you choose to have the examination with us, please ask your gynecologist to issue a referral.
