“You don’t want to see whooping cough in newborns again,” says Dr. Jiří Vojtěch, head of the high-risk pregnancy department at the U Apolináře maternity hospital. He describes the risks of whooping cough for pregnant women and newborns in an interview with Český rozhlas.

We recommend that all pregnant women get a pertussis booster shot between the 27th and 36th weeks of pregnancy.
Maternal antibodies protect the baby until 3 months after birth, when they’ll get their own shots and make their own antibodies.
